An interview with Dr. Lucy Kalanithi, widow of the #1 best-selling author of When Breath Becomes Air

Lucy’s husband, Dr. Paul Kalanithi, was chief neurosurgical resident at Stanford University when he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at the age of 36. Also a gifted writer, he spent the last two years of his life becoming a father and writing a book. When Breath Becomes Air is a moving memoir of his experience as a doctor facing a terminal illness, the relationship of doctor and patient, and his reflection on the meaning of life and death. Lucy, an internist and faculty member at the Stanford School of Medicine, shepherded the book through publication after his death and wrote a moving epilogue.

The book is available at the ECU Health Sciences Bookstore in the Brody Building, or look for our table at the event to purchase your copy.

The event is co-sponsored by the Brody School of Medicine and Vidant Health.
