About this Event

http://library.ecu.eduJoin us for a reception as we celebrate our current photography exhibit on loan from the UNC Chapel Hill Wilson Library, on April 16 at 3pm in the Janice Hardison Faulkner Gallery.
The Joy is in the "Going" & "Light and Air" by legendary NC photographer, Bayard Wootten. Stephen Fletcher, Photographic Archivist at UNC Chapel Hill Wilson Library will give a talk about Wootten and her amazing career.
Born in New Bern, North Carolina, Bayard Wootten (1875-1959) was a trailblazing photographer. She overcame economic hardship, and gender discrimination to become the state's most significant early female photographer. Though she was an accomplished landscape and architectural photographer, some of Wootten's most notable images were the portraits she crafted of black and white Americans, working people whom other photographers often ignored.
The exhibit is on view until May 15th, 2024.
