Tim Eriksen, a celebrated multi-instrumentalist and singer who plays banjo, fiddle, and guitar, will perform from his vast repertoire of American folk music genres--from grand to gritty, stark to sarcastic, unsettling to insightful, secular to sacred--accompanied by his dry, disarming sense of humor. He is a performer like no other.
By attending this performance, students will learn that (1) American folk music is a lot edgier and more diverse than they could have imagined, that (2) a person with nothing but an instrument can enliven a room in memorable and unexpected ways, that (3) music of the past still speaks to the dreams of today, and tomorrow, and (4) that American folk music can cultivate social as well as spiritual awareness.
