John Lane & Betsy Teter, Hub City Writers Project

John Lane and Betsy Teter will discuss writing, editing, and publishing in the context of the Hub City Writers Project.

HCWP was founded in 1995 as a writers’ cooperative. They are based in Spartanburg SC (“Hub City”). HCWP is a press, publishing high-quality, nationally-distributed works of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction (they have published over 700 writers in 80 different books); they also own their own bookstore and residency buildings; offer internships, scholarships, and residencies for beginning and emerging writers; host an annual writing conference; and many other activities. Their website notes that they are “one of the most substantial literary arts organizations in the nation.”

John and Betsy were founding members. John is currently a board member, and Betsy is Senior Editor for the press and Director of Development.
