Python Introduction

This workshop is for those new to Python. We will begin with the basics of creating and manipulating simple variables and data structures. Elements such as mathematical operations, concatenation, array functions, and iterators will be covered. The majority of the time will be spent in Pandas, with a smattering of NumPy, Matplotlib, and SciPy. Here, we will import a data file, analyze its structure, and get a feel for working with DataFrames and Series. Next, we will learn some simple techniques for profiling and querying the data in Pandas. Then, the data will be cleaned and augmented to support our analytic requirements. Finally, simple aggregate functions and a few one-way ANOVA’s and Tukey’s Honest Significant Difference (HSD) tests will be performed, as a straightforward data science exercise to showcase the power of Python and its packages.
