Turkey: A Partner in Crisis

The Topic:  Turkey is a NATO ally that is clearly in crisis.  A failed coup attempt in July 2016, increasing autocracy from the government, immigration flows, and other issues have increased concerns about the country’s future. Will Turkey remain an ally or will the relationship become more adversarial?  What additional challenges might the US face in its dealings with this important Muslim-majority ally?

About the Speaker: Dr. Pearce is the co-editor of the 2018 book, Istanbul:  Living with Difference in a Global City (with Nora Fisher-Onar and Fuat Keyman.  She has conducted research on gender, sexuality, and social movements in Turkey.  Her research interests include human rights in transitioning countries and the intersections between culture and activism.
