The School of Theatre and Dance is proud to present a staged reading of Firehawks at 8:00pm on September 12 in the Archie Burnette Studio Theatre.

Inspired by the girls incarcerated at North Carolina’s Samarcand Manor, Firehawks follows five teenagers from starkly different backgrounds confined in a 1931 reformatory for violating society’s narrow definitions of acceptable womanhood. Over months of confinement, they become one another’s tormentors, protectors, friends, and partners –until the threat of an unthinkable punishment forces them to risk everything to save themselves and one another.

The reading will be followed by a talkback with the playwright, Emily Bohannon.
