DESCRIPTION:Jonathan Reid (HIST) will present “Without Women and Children
: No Reformation in France.” He has written extensively on Marguerite de
Navarre\, a prolific writer and patron\, and other elite 16th century wom
en involved in Renaissance and reform movements.\n\nDr. Reid has focused h
is recent research on the contributions of “everyday women (and men) to
the Reformation in France as well as the difficulties of locating them in
archival and printed sources or interpreting their agency. As a remedy to
those problems\, Reid suggests that new research tools afforded by Digital
Humanities will allow the field to make rapid advances. The latter reflec
tions offer some methodological approaches which may be of interest to tho
se studying other times\, places\, or in other disciplines.\n\nDr. Reid is
the director of ECU’s Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program. If you
are interested in reading a pre-publication draft of his recent chapter\,
please contact him at reidj@ecu.edu.\n\nGender to a Tea is a speakers’ s
eries designed to help gender-focused researchers by fielding questions fr
om attendees about the presenters’ ongoing\, unpublished research.\n\nTh
e series – which is free and open to the public — is sponsored by the
Gender Studies Program\, Gender Studies Executive Board\, and Harriot Coll
ege of Arts and Sciences.\n\nIndividuals requesting accommodation under th
