DESCRIPTION:Dr. Sara Bryson (Criminal Justice) will present “Juvenile Wai
ver Decisions: Does Gender ‘Matter’?” as part of Gender to a Tea. \n
\nResearch has consistently found the presence of extra-legal disparities
in juvenile justice decision-making\, but less is known about the combined
effects of a juvenile’s gender and race on the decision to transfer you
th to adult court. \n\nThis talk outlines findings from a study in one Nor
theast state from 2004-2014 and demonstrates that while gender does “mat
ter\,” there are also important implications for the combined effects of
gender and race.\n\n--\n\n \n\nGender to a Tea is a speakers’ series de
signed to help gender-focused researchers by fielding questions from atten
dees about the presenters’ ongoing\, unpublished research.\n\nThe series
  – which is free and open to the public - is sponsored by the Gender Stu
dies Program\, Gender Studies Executive Board\, and Harriot College of Art
 s and Sciences.
