Lifelong Learning Program Course- Even as We Breathe by Annete Saunooke Clapsaddle

In this class we will discuss Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle's award-winning book, Even As We Breathe, the first novel published by a citizen of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI). We will also explore Clapsaddle's background as a writer and examine themes such as Cherokee literary traditions, the intersection of Appalachian/Southern and Indigenous cultures, and other World War II novels by Native American authors. ECU will host Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle on October 4, 2021, for a reading, so this class will give attendees an opportunity to consider her life and work in advance of her visit.
