“There is an island where the rivers run deep, where the seas sparkling in the sun earns it the name ‘Jewel of the Antilles’.” Bursting with color, rhythm, and song, this enchanted tapestry tells the story of Ti Moune. Based on the 1985 novel The Peasant Girl by Rosa Guy, islanders come together to tell a story of love, bravery, and strength. Ti Moune, an orphan, chosen by the gods, sets off in pursuit of finding her place in the world. After a terrible accident caused by a wicked storm, Ti Moune falls in love with a wealthy, but ailing, boy whom she tries desperately to nurse back to health. She prays to the gods, striking a bargain for his life and asking the ultimate question: can love conquer death?
